I mean this is good, and I understand that this meme was ready-made. But man I just always prefer the book versions of LOTR dialogue.

Exception maybe being Gandalf's "do what you have to do with the time you're given" speech, which is a bit different and moved to an entirely different point in the story, but McKellan is so good it makes you unashamedly weep. And by "you" I mean "me."

yeah the message is fundamentally different by moving it to moria vs before he accepts his quest but also ian mckellen is so wonderful as gandalf

something i think jackson and the writers were really good at is shuffling dialogue around to maintain the feel of tolkien gollum singing the barrow wights song, giving treebeard bombadil quotes etc

Moving the “the walls of her bower” speech from Gandalf to Grima, speaking TO Eowyn, was my favorite one of these. I gasped the first time I saw it. Hair raising.
