In German the word 'Reich' means realm.
So France is FrankREICH in German, and the United Kingdom is the "Vereinigtes KönigREICH"
Without any prepostitions the term 'Reich' is usually understood to mean Germany before 1945.
We have some lunatics who doubt the Federal Republic is a real (independent and sovereign) state.
Those people are called 'Reichsbürger', citizens of the Reich.
More properly "Citizens of the Empire" because in doubting the federal republic to be a real state, they also think the German Empire was never formally dissolved. Hence also why the Reichsbürger at minimum intermingle with monarchists & heirs to German aristocracy, hence Heinrich the 13th of Reuss.
