If safety were actually a concern, Columbia would be net-zero emissions, have divested from any fossil fuel/defense manufacturing firms, be pro-unionization, and never have hired people like that OBGYN that abused more than 300 women.
I hate this kind of rhetoric. The highest priority for a university just has to be the creation and dissemination of knowledge. If “safety” truly outranks all other goals, that justifies all sorts of abuses, and also just staying home instead of going to school and learning.
