Respect for making it to 83 without using The Hamburger. Lots of sandwiches out there! Also, one of my favorite Onion articles: www.theonion.com/wendys-to-ph...

“Originally devised as an alternative to classic Wendy's favorites like the cucumber tea sandwich or the watercress-and-beet salad with a light vinaigrette, the hamburger sandwich has languished on the restaurant's menu for decades”

Best burger I ever ate was midafternoon on a snowboarding trip, at a wood-fired open grill at the top of the mountain. Part of it was, no doubt, being tired and hungry on a really cold day - but that simple cheeseburger straight off the grill remains my Platonic ideal of a burger.

Love it. My childhood favourite burger was likewise the ones from the café at the foot of the ski slopes. My grown-up favourite was from a *French* burger joint, now closed, just up from Tottenham Court Road station in London. Barely cooked, juices everywhere, with a brioche bun...😋

"Le Big Mec" at Petit Trois is also quite nice, but it is - as the article says - extremely decadent. I enjoyed it immensely the first time I had it; the second time, I wished I'd had the croque monsieur instead. lamag.com/food/petit-t...

Croque Monsieur with jalapeno relish is currently my younger child's favourite breakfast. There's a cheese toastie maker permanently on the kitchen counter now. Sometimes* I make two, but only one makes it to the breakfast table. *most times, tbh

Timing! I JUST finished cooking/eating our lunch, which was Maui Cattle Co beef burgers w/Montreal steak seasoning, blue cheese, sauteed onions and fantastic local tomatoes on multigrain toast. I speak burger. :)

You've just reminded me of a really specific moment. I'd moved to California. The kids were at school. I was alone. A person I knew online told me now I was stateside I had to have a Philly steak sandwich, the best one in the state was in my city. I drove there and got one and it was bloody amazing.

So good, Talia @clairewillett.bsky.social: That was also my first restaurant meal I had after a long pandemic lockdown without eating out, except it was the Elks Temple McMenamins. It stayed with me, too <3

Semi-embarassing, but a Big Mac in the main square in Toledo, Spain, after having been stationed in Spain for a while without American food in the early 1990s. Spanish food is _SO_ good. But not their hamburgers. When that McD opened it was like heaven.

Ate Pizza Hut in Cologne after living in Germany for a year or two and it was delicious. Traditional pizza is good, but it's not American pizza. Nothing tops Japanese KFC though. Absolute perfection. Small meal but it's so good you feel full.

For our 7th wedding anniversary dinner I had a burger that was so good I almost cried.
