What I've gained:
- An appreciation for the bit of world I travel through
- A loathing that so many others are forced to choose The Car
- A respect for Nature. Thunderstorms especially!
- A new sense of self. I know myself in a new and different way. Of how I move, of how I endure, of my limits
But bike-commuting has been something else!
- It's been the overcoming of nature. Storming floods don't stop me in the same way as car-driving does
- Getting to witness more of passing seasons. From frost & winter's quiet to the explosive growth of summer and sharing of the route with critters
I reflect on my human nature as I do our other animal kin while biking. Our life and mortality are so closely linked.
