Bike commuting is one of the few things that literally changed my life. I know it’s not an option for many, many people, but if you can do it, give it a go a couple times a week for a month.
What I've gained: - An appreciation for the bit of world I travel through - A loathing that so many others are forced to choose The Car - A respect for Nature. Thunderstorms especially! - A new sense of self. I know myself in a new and different way. Of how I move, of how I endure, of my limits

I love this whole thread. Take a read and enjoy some lessons learned from bike commuting! Travel by bike is exceptional
What I've *really* gained by bike-commuting? - My bike ride is at its *best* when cars are gridlocked. - I thrive when drivers are at a frozen standstill. - I've lost so much of the commuting stress and awareness anxiety and traffic frustration by making my car-dependence only part of my commute.

What I've lost? - Frankly incredibly little! - Am I expected to go to the gym each day? Half my commute *is* gym time! - I've paid a vanishing fraction of my car's maintenance as bike maintenance! - Even if I'm "A fat-man on a freakishly heavy bike", it still costs less per mile!

But bike-commuting has been something else! - It's been the overcoming of nature. Storming floods don't stop me in the same way as car-driving does - Getting to witness more of passing seasons. From frost & winter's quiet to the explosive growth of summer and sharing of the route with critters

Bike-commuting the past twelve months has been many things: - A struggle against self of biking 18 miles per day (met by biking 2-4 days/wk) - A struggle against nature by the seasons (which I've met w/planning) - A struggle ag. poor infrastructure (a combo of mixed traffic & overgrown vegetation)

July 2023 was when I started my effort in earnest of bike commuting. The new job I'd started was amenable, in their office and geographically, to bike commuting. In practice, every biking day has actually been driving 5mi one-way to a safer starting point than home & another 9 of biking O-W

As of today, speed limiters are required in the EU. All new cars sold in the EU and in Northern Ireland must have a range of technical safety features... The most notable of these is intelligent speed assistance – or colloquially, a speed limiter.” www.theguardian.com/technology/a...

Kathy Hochul bravely defending the rights of New Jersey drivers to kill New Yorkers under their irresponsibly huge trucks for FREE because why come to the city and drink and then take the PATH home when you could just murder people

do we think this guy from New Jersey would have driven his pickup truck to Manhattan to get drunk had there been a $15 congestion pricing fee in place?

Under today’s immunity decision, Biden could order AG Garland to immediately prosecute Thomas and Alito for corruption and insurrection. (Official act). If Garland refuses, Biden can fire him and replace him with someone who will. (Official act) I would suggest Elie Mystal.
