Have greatly been enjoying FF VII Rebirth over the last week, for some reason Square Enix gave me a digital copy of the game. Wanted to dip my toe back into video making and talk about enjoying it, and how it + Remake helped me finally "get" FF VII. www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_0K...

That's the part where I mention that the game was outright said to be profitable sometime around July 2021! There are three PowerPoint slides dedicated to it (one literally saying "we're profitable!" and two diving into the 1.6m first month sales and an additional 400k in month two).

But just saying that isn't enough now, since people misinterpreted a projection from the day after the game was *announced*; proper breakdown helps. That projection seemed to be on lifetime sales & discounts a la R&C16's long/cheap tail. Instead, they passed the lifetime goal quickly at full price.

bc misinfo is still circling: Rift Apart first 8 months: $145m on 2.7m sales. It sold faster than expected; 2m sales in ~2 months instead of lifetime(?), was profitable early. For scale, R&C PS4: $123m on 7m sales. Rift hit PS+ in 5/23, 15 months of sales are unknown. It avg'd 10k/week in Feb '22.
