Roland Emmerich's Independence Day was released 28 years ago today.

I remember seeing it in the cinema and needing a pee break, so I went during Data's scenes, Sorry Brent Spinner's scenes. And when I came back it was a WTF just happened moment as I see the alien flailing him around like a meat puppet! I didn't get to see that scene properly until the VHS came out

Was it a good movie? No. Was it a FUN movie? Unequivocally Yes.

In an alternate universe it happened for real. But there were no charges filed against the GOP president after he conspired with the aliens to murder the democratic president and everybody else in DC who wasn't warned ahead time. That universe is also 6-3.

by coincidence, i watched this last night, and then followed up with Independence Day Resurgence.

I saw this opening day in Oregon's largest theater. It was packed with the biggest nerds on Earth and it was probably the greatest movie going experience of my life.
