Hey y'all, I'm co-editing a volume with Lisa DiBartolomeo at WVU on Higher Ed in Crisis. We're finalizing a contract with a university press, and are now accepting chapter proposals. Please see the full CFP at bit.ly/higheredincr... and feel free to reach out if you have questions! [3/15 deadline]
In higher ed publishing, the "campus crisis" genre tends to be directed at upper-level administrators. This volume is for the rest of us. ALL of us. (and, to be clear, this means F/T and adjunct/term faculty, staff members, etc.)
A large part of the book will likely talk about failures at one or more levels of an institution and both external and internal "leadership," so that's not necessarily disqualifying. :)
I passed it on to our union point man on the ground at Queens College, currently being targeted by Albany, Mayor Adams, and the same consulting firm that nuked WVU.
I really hope you get a chapter on the chilling climate on campuses against anti-genocide students/faculty and the violation of free speech for those speaking out against racism
Currently sitting in a University of Kentucky Board of Trustees meeting with a HUGE faculty turnout.
That's not a coincidence.
The first item on the agenda is a Deloitte consultant recommending that the Board strip the University Senate of much of its authority over academic regulations.
It's so wild, Katharine. And I would rather be spending this time doing my job, trying to teach about and research climate change and climate solutions!!!
I think there's a fair amount of similarity with some of these issues (neoliberal austerity, for example). In terms of a final TOC, a lot will depend on the proposals we get. But, yes, definitely of interest!
Are you still accepting submissions by chance? 🙏🏻 I’m based at LSU - do you already have a chapter on the dismal state of emergency contraception access on many college campuses?
Unfortunately, we've closed submissions at this point. Not sure if we have anything on that topic yet, as we're just starting to do through the submissions we've received.
