…huh. In an MtG Arena game, quite early on, my opponent casts a spell that causes each player to discard their hand and draw 7 cards from their opponent’s library. He draws the cards from my library, looks at them, and promptly concedes. At full health. …honestly, I’m a trifle insulted.

Jeez, did he just not like all my Soul Wardens?

You are used to killing opponents with a broom handle and 57 turnips, he is not 8-)

That's why I like niche combo decks. Steal from my deck why don't you? Good luck figuring out how it works.

You know you built the deck well when your opponent has to spend a good half-minute reading each of the cards you set out.

Maybe he just realized that hand would not be enough to avert your eventual crushing army.

He drew 6 lands and a card that required 7 of a color he didn't draw.

I suspect that means "my cute trick didn't pan out, so I'm not going to bother, just find a new game and try again."
Avatar
.... maybe it was a case of "I'm not going to be able to play any of these cards, so I'm going to have several turns of 'draw, do nothing, done'"?

I encountered someone recently whose deck was clearly nothing but those spells and lands, because I ended up with six lands and another such spell, tried casting it on my turn, and ended up with seven more lands. I suspect the resulting irritated concession on my part was the entire point. 🙄

You are getting me dangerously close to reinstalling arena.

They were hoping to snake the exodia cards from your deck.

... gaaaah I need to get back to rebuilding. Need to win like 1 or 2 more to get a starter deck. I will say that the.. number of formats now is a tetch confusing. I have some cards that I want to build a deck around and I have *NO IDEA* what formats they're for. XD

Alchemy is the digital-only format that can only be played in Arena because it uses some mechanics, like card summoning, that can only be done digitally.
Avatar
I think it only uses cards from the core set + last three years of expansions? Historic uses a few more years worth.
Avatar
Historic uses all cards “printed”minus a few that have a power level too high.
Avatar
Explorer I think is the hardest one to explain since it was created to roughly mirror a print format, except not all the print format cards have been released on arena
Avatar
Alchemy is currently 2 years + a core set with cards from the preconstructed starter decks, Standard is last 3.

Yeah that does definitely seem like an “either it works or it doesn’t” move.
