I made a new prototype today in preparation for a pitch next weekend. Imbedding magnets into my prints has changed so much. Now the top (gold part) won't fall out when turned over, which was a big issue at Origins.

Cool 🎲✂️ designs I tested/saw at Origins - a thread 😎 1) Randall Li’s Insider Fruit Trading. One of ~6 UI’s he tested across multiple iterations in 4 days. A zesty game of reading opponents’ intentions and jumping at opportune moments. Simple and feels like a classic.

This was my favorite game of Origins. It will be signed, its just a matter of time.

6) @boardgameghee.bsky.social has designed the most brilliant drawing game in recent memory. It’s So Clover! with easily drawn symbols. He has fixed the ‘but I can’t draw well’ problem and it is a clever delight. Forget the market hesitance for drawing games, this is undeniable. Instant purchase.

🎲✂️I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. If you want a career in the hobby gaming industry, there not many things that will help you on your journey more than helping someone else sell their games at a large convention. You can learn so much with the bonus of getting paid to do it!

For those who attended Origins, don't forget to send those follow up emails this week. Get it out of the way earlier than later.

I am overjoyed to have had the opportunity to go to Origins this year. Here is a little summary of my experience. I was nervous during my travel because I didn't have many pitches lined up. But between boothing, connecting with friends, and playtesting, I left with a full heart.

If you are at Origins, come by booth 1644 and say hi and we can chat like pirates. Argggggg matey!

My two worlds have finally collided... I figured I need more traction to move the paper around and medical gloves were the correct answer.

🎲✂️ I led a game jam at the local library today. It was so rewarding teaching little kids how to design games! I tried something different this time; the groups made a variation on a popular card game. One group changed uno in a pretty drastic way with 1 rule change: Taking a pile scores points.

Hot take on a Friday: If you are publishing games and you exclusively take pitches in person at conventions (or receive the majority of submissions/pitches at cons), you are amplifying the voices of those privileged to attend those conventions and ignoring those who cannot.

🎲✂️ Testing Pastries in low light settings and at 1v1 with the new rules. I will need to change blue to more of a sky blue. But the playtest countered what I thought would happen: it is now a much tighter game at 1v1.
