It's fine, I just had to gate check my bag, and then there was plenty of space where it could have gone.

The lack of bin space and the delays from dealing with it are the entirely predictable result of charging for checked bags.

Ah yeah. I always just offer to gate check immediately when they announce they're doing that so I don't have to deal.

There was no wait for the bags to come out, so it really was okay, but the situation makes me mad. They know how many people have booked the flight and checked in - they could just offer free checked bags on a lottery system to make room.
