The only character reference needed was the video of him beating a woman and if additional references were needed his own message laughing and joking about it was more than sufficient.
Cases like this every couple of weeks. Male perpetrator's job used to justify suspending the sentence + this BS where people who've nothing to do with the case are wheeled in to give the offender a glowing character reference. One case was a middle-age man who exposed himself to a 10 year-old girl
