#UncoolTwo50 #Unlucky25 21. 'Glory Box' by Portishead - The only single swapped out *after 1st October* (naughty!) in my U50 - Probably the best of these last 25 cuts, but doesn't feel like "mine" - Is a top 40 "seed", so this cut surely won't matter? www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qQy...

#UncoolTwo50 #Unlucky25 Oh yes. It came this close. 22. 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' by Bonnie Tyler - The ULTIMATE "song I love in idiom I really don't" - Taylor & Sarah on Chart Music helped it get this far - As did the mini-Steinman 'Vampire' by Olivia Rodrigo www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcOx...

Yeah, I think that "does this feel like my kind of music?" is a great question to ask. It's why I'm not including your previous cut (IFL) on my list either (or any EDM for that matter). I want my list to feel personal, with all my quirks and interests.

I mean this single is, but Dummy in general isn’t, not like Maxinquaye or Blue Lines. Really what I meant was that I don’t think I could write about it from the heart, unlike the other stuff that was in contention at the business end.

I definitely agree that writing a meaningful blog/blurb about each pick is another order of difficulty higher than just making the picks.

There’s also “do I owe anything to stuff that was my kind of music then but isn’t now” - not a problem in the other challenges (cos either I wasn’t alive or it’s close enough that I’ve not changed much)

This [=my largely negative answer to that question] is the reason my list will be quite dance-heavy, representing my current appreciation of the period more than what I was listening to at the time (though there'll be plenty of nods to my younger indie self left as well).

I'm being mindful of what I liked then vs. now and making some space for nostalgia. But 14-year-old me would pick lotsa stuff like "Mr. Roboto" and "Urgent" and I don't think anyone wants too much of that. :) Any pick still has to work on some level today, even if it feels a bit cheesy.

'It doesn't need my help' is a risky approach as we've learned, but on this occasion.....
