Ok, but I did actually visit a grove of 'blood trees' in Australia once! Not as dramatic though, much more obviously just red sap

It would taste a lot like iron!

The real equivalent I can think of is the red alder. The wood and bruises stain red for awhile until either cured or healed (hence the name).
