A super PAC supporting Sen. Ted Cruz’s reelection campaign has received nearly $800,000 in receipts from the company that distributes the Texas Republican’s podcast, an arrangement that is attracting scrutiny from campaign finance experts and Democrats.
Pro-Ted Cruz group draws scrutiny for receiving money from his podcast’s companywapo.st Critics have questioned whether the arrangement runs afoul of a ban on candidates directing money to super PACs that can raise unlimited amounts of money.

This is a confusing use of the word receipts.

very expensive receipts they are printed on ancient papyrus

It’s redundant. Received…in receipts.
It's awkward and confusing to use two related senses of the same word in such proximity, but it's not redundant. The podcast company's "receipts" (or online advertising revenue) were given to (received by) the pro-Cruz SuperPAC. First graf of the story confusing even without he proximity.

I don’t think the “receipts” are the company’s, I read them as the PAC’s receipts (and therefore redundant), which of course means you’re correct that that it’s confusing and awkward. :)
You might be right, but in the article the company's money is called “digital revenue” or “digital income” and ... the money that has gone to the super PAC is “associated with those advertising sales.”
