David Tennets approach to trans rights being as visceral and outraged as most of us is a refreshing thing to see compared to the loser celebs that just wear a shirt and deny it when backpedaling.
He is risking his career to recognize humanity and that’s the energy we need from celebrities.
Given the thousands of trans kids who are rejected by their parents every day I would argue he very much has a choice and chooses radical love and acceptance
And even not straight-out rejection but staying silent because they're a conflict-adverse celebrity. I love Tony Hawk, but I'm also pissed at him for not saying "trans rights" even though he has a trans kid. (I know they have a shaky relationship but he still makes birthday posts about Gupi).
oh sure, I didn’t think you meant anything bad! Just clarifying that it is a choice even if it’s an obvious one to him by moral standing and is still worth celebrating
I have a mental list of favorite Doctors, ranked, and yeah, I'm gonna have to move up both 10 and 14 now. (Although to be fair, I bet Christopher Eccleston would be making the exact same points, only a lot less polite, if any media outlet bothered to ask him.)
yep, he was already making a name for himself in the UK before Dr. Who and also his first episode as the Doctor aired before GoF and that Christmas (2005) was his proper introduction
if he hadn't been in GoF he would probably be in the same place professionally, but it's nice having him against JKR
He was a super-popular Doctor, and is a super talented actor. It is so great to see him fight this good fight. I don’t want to conflate him with his character in DOCTOR WHO but it’s hard to separate the spirit of the actor from this character.
If only he could dole out the kind of punishments he did AS the Doctor...*something-something immortally-suspended as a scarecrow that no one will ever see, hear, or know about, but trapped for all eternity held within a single moment on the inside...*
Tennant is a lifelong Doctor Who fan and knows pretty much every bit of obscure lore about The Doctor so the line between the two is closer than you think
Honestly, search his name + trans rights and it feels the way the ending of a cliffhanger Dr Who episode feels.
The heroes are in trouble, the villains appear to have won, but just before the credits roll.. you hear the TARDIS materializing off camera...
Rowling, known Nazi crime denier, actually used the words "gender taliban" to describe Tennant and his defense of trans people after he called anti-trans bigots "little whinging fuckers".
She's so mad, AND they put it in the paper that she's so mad.
