One of the dumbest customs of American political culture (straight up stupid, not malicious per se) is referring to some appointed officials as “czars.” Just offends me on a molecular level purely for how dumb it is.
Yeah, I just looked it up and apparently it’s been used for over a hundred years in roughly the same way in the US. Looks like some in the press used it, and I have no idea why officials embraced it.
Was a nickname, before it was a job description.
