A sculptural, mixed media, found object piece I’ve been building for a bit. A clockwork wasp in a precious metal hive, maybe? 16”x7”x4”. Can stand alone or be hung on a wall.
Two more studies of abstract art made from flattened pieces of rust I’ve found as I’ve walked along the road. One trying to be more colorful, one leaning into my favorite “alien artifact” territory.
Trellises and strings this year to support plants instead of the plastic snap together system I’ve used in years past. Garden is coming along pretty well so far.
Painting drop! When I got to Portland Maine, my niece recommended I take my morning walks along the Back Cove Trail, which I’ve done each day. This little structure along the way looked perfect for a painting.
New painting! I found a piece of flat old rust as I was walking the other day and liked how it looked so I wanted to make something that was kind of hyper-rusty and evoked some idea of graffiti.
Painting drop! My niece agreed to take one of my paintings all the way to Alaska, and she found the perfect spot to leave it. Hatcher Pass is gorgeous, and I hope someone finds some art to take with them while they’re there.
I’ve been playing around with styrofoam balls and this is getting close to something I like. The color choices can make this type of arrangement look too “Christmas ornaments,” but I like the effect so far.
I got to see my cousin Christy promoted to Colonel today. She’s so incredibly accomplished and this is the third promotion in the third state I’ve been able to attend.
Playing around with some styrofoam balls and I originally used the wrong adhesive, so some of them melted at first. I leaned into that and made something where the spheres are disappearing into the floor.
thinking about the time i was like 10 and wanted to test whether that thing where you step on a rake and it smacks you in the face works and boy does it ever
I'm working on a piece of art that is taking a lot of patience and I'm (by trial and error) learning some new skills. And one of those is to slow down and do things that take a lot of time. Sohla El-Waylly once said the most overlooked ingredient to be a good cook is time, and that makes sense.
It’s hard to photograph, but I’ve been working on a weird project to hold all the tiny oddball treasures I find at art fairs. This started as a thrifted bathroom cabinet and now I think it looks like a decrepit alien column. Maybe it’s my Meow Wolf audition piece, lol.
