Not to go all conspiracy theory but i have to wonder how much of canada's housing problem is caused by american companies owning canadian rental properties, seeing the disparity in the usd to cad and just adjusting canadian prices according to usd expectations because fuck you, pay me.

...good question...in 2023 44% of homes sold in the US were bought by large corporations. That doesn't include mil/billionaires buying real estate as tax shelters...it's why home prices are so high rn

There is as much a homelessness problem as there is an occupancy-in-livable-homes problem due to artificial barriers set up by multitudes of idiots.

I'm not as up on what's happening in CA, but we've got a massive homelessness problem here too. Just in the city I live in-it's gotten much worse in the last couple years. Your comment about creating a stronger fabric struck a chord...
