AI-generated art (if you wanna call it that) is like Google Glass and the Metaverse. It’s not that most people don’t want it in their lives, they actually actively despise it. It’s a product that generates feelings of loathing rather than delight; dismay rather than joy.

Generating AI images is pretty fun though.

No, it's fucking not. It's soulless, boring, and I have much more fun DRAWING the picture. And I am both bad at drawing and don't really enjoy it. I put in a prompt one time to prove a point and fucking HATED it.

I have 0 idea how this is gatekeeping. Art literally only requires a pencil and a piece of paper to learn. If you can't afford that, a stick and some dirt will suffice. The cost of learning art is literally only time and a couple bucks. You got a computer? Microsoft Paint comes free with Windows.

Like wrestling a pig, but at least when you wrestle with a pig, the pig enjoys it. AI is incapable of enjoying, and for me is incapable of being enjoyed.

Yea, I mean, I don't enjoy baseball. Do what you like.

Yea I don't mean as art. I mean as a party game/novelty. Try sitting around with your friends coming up with random prompts.

"party game or novelty" You're literally saying that theft is fine for fun. Using something trained on CSA or CP is fine if it's "fun."

Have you ever seen Putin give Trump a reach around onstage at the RNC? I have, and it was funny as fuck. I'm not aware of any artist that's stolen from. I totally sympathize with artists whose work is used to train models that can plagiarize their work and they should be compensated though.

No, and I sure as fuck don't. The day the Orange fugitive fuckwit is dead will be a day that I dance on my neighbor's "Trump 2024" flag. (Not really, I would rather not be shot.)

Right well my point is that it's NOT appropriate for creating artwork, but if you just want to see gerbils playing soccer or whatever it's pretty fun and easy to generate an image of that.

It's a party game/novelty that is actively heating our planet

That article is about how data centers have high power/water consumption and AI energy use reporting is unregulated so we don't know the impact. It also says it's expected to diminish as the tech improves. And anyway, I'm running it on my own machine so it's irrelevant to my usage.
