The only times I've read dark romances were when someone paid me to read it (I'm also a freelance editor). I prefer my romances with characters that I can root for, and there are too many barriers to that with dark romance.

I feel like it can be a great exploration of situations that can happen to you: being in love with someone that's not good for you, or has questionable morals, or treated you wrong but you can't let go. Even an exploration of abuse and sexual violence. But I feel it needs some maturity to write.

I like Dark Romance when it's actually dark, which is lacking in a lot of so called Dark Romance. Maybe it's a german problem but what I have read so far from here is always an annoying guy that doesn't deserve any respect and the darkness is just surface level.
