I really don’t get the appeal of Texas. Come for the book and abortion bans, stay for the insane heat, scorpions and fire ants? I guess they have Tex Mex and Spoon…

I was in Austin then, and through W. Spoon was a local band, the heat wasn’t as insane, Lake Travis was full, and in seven years I never saw a scorpion. I did get bitten by a brown recluse spider in a thrift store though.

This was like, 1996, so I can’t remember. I went back to warn the owner and she was like “oh yeah, they’re nbd, happens all the time.” I didn’t go back. I was one of many people who dated David Garza’s road manager, who, wait, was also Spoon’s road manager for a bit!
