I read the article to remind myself and, oddly, I don’t find any mention of “Biden actually himself promised he wouldn’t run”.
Instead I see a ship of Theseus needed to turn “advisors said they talked about it” into “him secretly indicating it to insiders” into “he promised l”
I think there was definitely some wishful thinking at the time that helped with the general way misinformation spreads. Like I fucking wish he HAD promised and had then kept that, but I don't think that was ever really the case no matter how much it might have made sense or we wanted it to be true.
