Blooming in the heat - my Blue Butterfly Clerodendron/ Rotheca myricoides. It dies to the ground every winter and is slow to wake up and resprout. A favorite passalong plant from a dear friend. #FlowerReport 🌱

The Brazilian Orchid Tree blooms don't last long in this heat so I look for them in the morning (AKA Bauhinia forficata, Pata de Vaca). In warmer places this can be a small tree - it's a shrub here. #gardening 🌱

It’s so cool that cities are like “pweeease only turn your AC on if you’re actively dying and don’t go below 79 🥺🤘🏻💗” while the AI nobody asked for is slurping up the power grid to make 1 image of a girl with 5 tits

A little over an inch of rain made the 'Catawba' crepe myrtle flowers so heavy they bent the branches of the two trees into an arch, sort of copying the metal arch behind them #gardening 🌱

I thought the leaves on the Coral Honeysuckle were thinning out - pretty sure this is a Sphinx Moth caterpillar and he's been busy. There are still leaves and a few flowers at the top. #gardening🌱

I am once again asking you to consider that an entire information ecosystem established as the primary form of communication over a hundred years and allegedly regulated by the federal government was destroyed by scammers virtually overnight and we just don’t, like, ever talk about it
The first rule of avoiding scam calls is to never answer unknown numbers, and even some known ones. Curious? Bored? Worried it’s an emergency? Wait the extra minute it takes for the call to go to voice mail, then decide if it’s legitimate.
Sick of scams? Stop answering your phone.www.washingtonpost.com Phone scams are still hugely popular — and they depend entirely on people curious enough to answer.

The Verbena bonariensis is in bloom and for vegetarian Lesser Goldfinches, the petals and seeds are on the menu. Here are three tiny birds, looking like the garden version of a Las Vegas swaypole act. #FlowerReport 🌱#Birds

look, I know there are plenty of ways in which Trump could in fact still wriggle out of this, he could still win in November, so on and so forth put that aside we can discuss it tomorrow today is for hooting and hollering and fireworks and throwing a parade

'Prairie Blue Eyes' daylily once thrived in my Illinois garden. I loved it and brought a division along when we moved to Austin, Texas in 1999. It's still growing and blooming! #gardening 🌱

These chrysanthemums were a Thanksgiving table decoration in November 2022. I planted them outside and they've survived to bloom with 'Cheyenne Spirit' coneflowers in May 2024 #FlowerReport #Gardening 🌱🌼 The hot colors go well with our 90+ degree temperatures!

Our tree was planted in 2006 and it makes beautiful doubled flowers but this pomegranate tree has never produced a fruit - maybe because no pollinator could reach the middle through those ruffles!

Pssst, because no one is talking about it…there’s oil leaking into Galveston bay from that barge incident this morning. Still not contained. And now the bridge is unstable.

This thread.
In the Spring of 1864 Twain, while working as a beat reporter for the SF Morning Call, Twain witnessed the murder of a Chinese laborer by a mob that included cops. It radicalized him. He wrote it up, one of the first things he ever authored which he thought deserved to be called “literature”… 2/

They're still tiny, and it may be like counting your chickens before they hatch, but there are about 20 little figs developing on our tree. Think the raccoons and mockingbirds will let us have any? #gardening

You guys...have I got a personal health, science, AND gardening SAGA for you! This one is amazing, buckle up. A couple years ago I looked in the mirror and saw this. I had to suppress my panic because I'm first aid trained and having unevenly dilated pupils is like...pretty bad. 1/n 🌱🧪

The dog ate too many cicadas and gave herself a stomachache. She’s been lying around farting all morning. I can live with the (truly horrible) gas. Just please don’t throw up cicadas in the house. Please, dog. I’m begging you.

Some people in Texas use the leafing out of mesquite trees as an indicator there will be no more frosts. No mesquite trees here so in my yard I watch for the expanding leaf buds of the pecan trees. It's worked so far! (I think this counts as Phenology) #gardening 🌱

Good thing we had such effective White House leadership at the time, otherwise who knows what sort of shit might have gone down.
18 March 2020 O'Hare is deadly* quiet, and my flight home is nearly deserted. In the meantime, the PRH offices have just locked themselves up, so I won't get a chance to retrieve any of my stuff for, what?, a year or so? *foreshadowing
