Nearly every time I'm at my absolute favorite place in Florida, I watch someone pull into the lot, pause for a minute, then drive off like they were underwhelmed by what they see. And I smile a little.
My 2024 hot take is: gatekeep like hell. You find a beautiful location tell only your closest friends. Keep that shit off social media. Unless you're talking about a literal stadium with explicit capacity keep that gem to yourself. Make people work for it

My favourite local example is Cathedral Grove, world famous, always clogged with cars and tourists. I know a few other places that put that place to absolute shame & maybe I'll run into 3 or 4 other people if I go on a weekend.

Imagine finding a longleaf pine savanna underwhelming. That's a supreme lack of education there.

This is the remaining state conservation strategy in WI...no signage. Seriously, even decades ago when I worked on a large state conservation propery and painted a ton of signs and the unofficial/official line..."just leave'm in the barn."

I miss the nature in Florida. I went to UF, and regularly went out and did day hikes all over Central Florida. So much of it is is gorgeous.
