Honest question: Do political scientists who propose a Harris nomination do so based on principles, or are there data I am unaware of that suggest she is the Democrat with the highest chance of winning against Trump? #polisci #polisky #USelections #USpolitics

I've taught PhD-level Historical Political Economy at UCSD since 2018. I recently added a week dedicated to going to the library. Students said it was eye-opening--many had never been there! 🙌🏽 My syllabus changes every year; the Spring '23 one is here: www.agustinapaglayan.com/_files/ugd/a...

#Econsky, what are *well-identified* studies on the effect of education on crime? (evidence from any is country welcome)

Some diff's: - Most polisci (econ) folks care about political (economic) causes/conseq's - Polisci cares relatively more about mechanisms (the reason why X affects Y); econ, more about well-identified causal effects (whether X affects Y) - Polisci is more diverse (incl. methodologically)
#EconSky and polisky, I have two questions What are the differences and similarities between economics and political science? Also, it is my understanding that they both use very similar methods nowadays. Am I correct? Repost appreciated! Thanks.

@profmusgrave.bsky.social could you add me to the Polisky list? Thanks

Let's honor Claudia Goldin's work by reflecting on our gender biases. How many of you congratulating "Claudia" have also congratulated "Ben," "David" or "Paul" in the last 3 years? How often do you refer to a woman's first name but a man's last name when discussing a reading you assigned?

YES!!! I was secretly and strongly hoping for Claudia Goldin to win the Nobel in Economics this year. Her contributions to the study of educational expansion in the US have been just as influential as those on gender gaps in the labor market.
