You’re right. I am not going to denounce my employer for taking a line I disagree with because I would be fired. I think it is more valuable to not be fired and express my disagreement without denouncing my employer. This is a moral compromise I have made and can live with.
The number of people who think activism is "other people have to throw themselves on their sword on my command" is troubling. If you want important institutions to have better positions the only way to do that is having people with those better positions be there!
It isn’t the only way, but it is one of many and Bouie is principled and is gracious enough to share this. Other principled people approach this differently, like former Google employees, for example.
