“Ok, let’s make a bright accessible kid-friendly space with stacks and games to check out and chess tables and a cafe on every floor and if you want a book, just go through the website and we’ll pull it out and have it ready for you!”
Not that much more, for most of us. I did the math once and we personally would have paid 2% more, but gotten healthcare, which eats like 20% of what we make. So.
IIRC the actual sums paid are fairly comparable (US - Sweden), but it pays for things like healthcare, school lunches, and subsidized child care instead of a worldwide military presence.
Also, my auto insurance is US$20/month.
Yup. When we were looking at immigration in 2017 we looked into it. Everyone is told "but taxes are so much more!!!" and it's untrue for most people, and definitely untrue for most people when adding healthcare, let alone transportation, school, etc.
