(1/3) So, let's discuss this in larger developmental terms. During early development, children have almost no sense of personal morality. How could they? They're still figuring out volition. As a result the common technique to teach early values is fear-based punishment: Direct negative consequence.

A lot of folks are demonstrating off a post of mine that they have never really developed a comprehensive set of ethical values independent of the framework of the laws they know and it's fascinating how they think the removal of the latter leaves everyone without the former.

Accidental quantum mechanics in game design; a thread. In Overboard!, the NPCs run on schedules and move from room to room. On the map, you can see where they'll be when you arrive, so you can catch them. The game figures this out by speculatively bumping the clock to peek ahead.
