I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

1. this rules 2. "I work on the heliophysics communications team" is one of the most Video Game job descriptions we have ever heard and we mean that as a compliment

I feel like it's emblematic of a bunch of stuff about bsky Not everything, though I think if you look hard enough you can see Orion's hog and Boöbtes

Is this the first skeet to get more than 10k likes in under 24 hrs? Probably, right?

I volunteer at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago and am 100% forwarding this whole thing to the volunteer staff, they'll love it! Thanks for creating it!

Awww, thank you! Thanks for all the great work y'all do there--the Adler is a treasure! ✨

This is gorgeous. If you wanted to spend the time (not asking you to) I would totally read a blog/post about what each image is and inspect the full image, that is how awesome this is

I'll copy/paste from the bird site for you! (It was super fun finding all the different images, so I'm happy you want to know the sources ☺️)

OMG AMAZING!! Thank you for the time and effort. :)

I had never heard of or seen a red sprite cluster before this. Amazing!

Ah! I read the alt text, and "top of sprites" was the only one I didn't know at all what it meant

Voyager! Vidicon!! Yes, folks, Voyager had an old-fashioned TV camera that scanned the imaging plate with an electron beam. In Jupiter’s strong magnetic field. So the resulting images were badly distorted and had to be geometrically corrected (at USGS in Flagstaff, where I was an intern).

I've been there! We spent a week in the state park with our canoe (motorboat folks slept in til mid-day). The mountain S of center is volcanic obsidian; the water gets bathtub warm in summer to grow all those greens the fish love, with lots of grebes, a colony of white pelicans, osprey & eagles.
Avatar
Wow! Was the algae difficult to canoe through?
Avatar
The river where folks put boats in is nw of the C in Clear Lake St Park label, a lil beach is around by the k. Our campsite was full of ripening blackberry bushes, we had great pancakes & oats that week! The lake fills up with water plants.
Avatar
More elodea (real plants-plants growing up thick) than tiny algae the year we were there. We were careful with our paddles, certainly, & hosed down the canoe when we pulled it out of the water at the end of the week. Srs showers at the beach, too: hope they close the beach in bloom years, ew!
