Hear, hear: “In fact, the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump. Trump, 78, has been on the political stage for eight years marked by chaos, corruption, and incivility. Why go back to that?”
To serve his country, Donald Trump should leave the race | Editorial Boardwww.inquirer.com Biden had a horrible night Thursday. But the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump.

“The debate served as a reminder of what another four years of Trump would look like. More lies, grievance, narcissism, and hate. Supporters say they like Trump because he says whatever he thinks. But he mainly spews raw sewage.”

“Trump attacks the military. He denigrates the Justice Department and judges. He belittles the FBI and the CIA. He picks fights with allies and cozies up to dictators. Trump is an unserious carnival barker running for the most serious job in the world.”

“Of course, there were the unprecedented two impeachments. Now, Trump is a convicted felon who is staring at three more criminal indictments. He is running for president to stay out of prison. If anything, Trump doesn’t deserve to be on the presidential debate stage. Why even give him a platform?”

“Trump allegedly stole classified information and tried to overturn an election. His plans for a second term are worse than the last one. We cannot be serious about letting such a crooked clown back in the White House… The sooner Trump exits the stage, the better off the country will be.”
Why is Trump is allowed on the 2024 ballot? Many of his documented crimes were subverting the ballot (Georgia and Jan.6). He gets another bite at the apple? I believed the tally in 2020; today I have every right to question the tally of 2024 (i.e. is he going to find a better way to cheat).

Sadly we can thank the Republican Party for allowing him on the ballot.

Was just going to post this link... God love Philly.

I mean, Trump has never once served his country and I see no sign of interest in ever doing so. I do hope he is eventually compelled to serve as an example of a slow but steady criminal justice system finally imposing law and order.

"To serve his country..." See, there's your problem. Trump and the Republicans have no desire to serve the country. Only themselves.
Avatar
Okay but if we’re going with C words that describe Trump’s behavior I would have chosen “crime.”

I agree with this 1000 percent.

As the resident of a Philly suburb, I say "Hear, hear!"

The NYT has now been shamed into saying he should withdraw.

I will be reposting this daily.
If Donald Trump gave a you-know-what about this country, he never would have run for President at all. We all know that, the problem is the tens of millions of voters who think he’s on their side. How do we communicate that Trump can’t/won’t bring back the good old days?

"To serve his country, Donald Trump should leave the race" Reality: This is a 0% chance scenario In understand the sentiment here, but everyone needs to come to terms with the fact democracy is facing a genuine existential threat.
Avatar
True, but the more the places that say this the more awkward it gets for the republicans. Let’s make this a trend. Make the NYT ashamed of itself

In all honesty, the pro-Trump crowd has no shame left. It’s a rhetorical nice gesture but won’t move the needle. I think we need to listen to voters who are saying these are two terrible choices. If Michele Obama would run it would be a landslide for Dems, but that’s not going to happen either.
Avatar
No it’s not. You’re not replacing Biden unless he dies. Anyone else won’t do better, and you might not be able to even get them on the ballot. So we have to make it clear that another Trump term is unacceptable. Demanding his resignation, unlikely as that is, should be one tactic among many

Getting on the ticket is an interesting question. Is it the party on the ticket or the specific candidate? If it’s the latter, if a candidate passed away mid-election, would voters be choosing a dead candidate or could another candidate take the position in their stead? I don’t know.
Avatar
It’s not necessarily true that Biden can’t be replaced, though it would have to be Biden’s decision. I think there are others who could potentially do much better. Demanding that Trump pull out is nice rhetoric, but functionally meaningless. Here’s a good discussion: youtu.be/L1eL6RkET60?...

Don't get me wrong, In a better system and a better timeline, I don't think Biden would be running. But in that timeline, Trump wouldn't be running either. If the right was running someone less dangerous, I wonder if Biden wouldn't have stepped aside. But he already beat this guy once.

I'm not a religious guy, but the Serenity prayer really fits here: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference." Trump WILL be the candidate. We need to change what we can to stop him from winning.

There is no easy resolution. If he dies, he was murdered. If he loses, it was stolen. If he's jailed, he was framed. If he's ill, he was poisoned. If he commits a crime, it it was for the Country. If he calls up the militia, he is the Executive. If he tells his mob to get me, I'll fight them.
