Hear, hear: “In fact, the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump. Trump, 78, has been on the political stage for eight years marked by chaos, corruption, and incivility. Why go back to that?”
To serve his country, Donald Trump should leave the race | Editorial Boardwww.inquirer.com Biden had a horrible night Thursday. But the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump.

"To serve his country, Donald Trump should leave the race" Reality: This is a 0% chance scenario In understand the sentiment here, but everyone needs to come to terms with the fact democracy is facing a genuine existential threat.

True, but the more the places that say this the more awkward it gets for the republicans. Let’s make this a trend. Make the NYT ashamed of itself

In all honesty, the pro-Trump crowd has no shame left. It’s a rhetorical nice gesture but won’t move the needle. I think we need to listen to voters who are saying these are two terrible choices. If Michele Obama would run it would be a landslide for Dems, but that’s not going to happen either.

No it’s not. You’re not replacing Biden unless he dies. Anyone else won’t do better, and you might not be able to even get them on the ballot. So we have to make it clear that another Trump term is unacceptable. Demanding his resignation, unlikely as that is, should be one tactic among many

It’s not necessarily true that Biden can’t be replaced, though it would have to be Biden’s decision. I think there are others who could potentially do much better. Demanding that Trump pull out is nice rhetoric, but functionally meaningless. Here’s a good discussion: youtu.be/L1eL6RkET60?...

Getting on the ticket is an interesting question. Is it the party on the ticket or the specific candidate? If it’s the latter, if a candidate passed away mid-election, would voters be choosing a dead candidate or could another candidate take the position in their stead? I don’t know.
