I am alternating between feeling revved up and crashing, and I have a very painful partial-thickness burn on one finger, but my kids and pets are safe and my house is intact. It was really scary to see the flames, though.

Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry that happened, it must have been terrifying. Thank Whoever that you were able to handle the situation so that everyone emerged okay.

Oh my God, that must’ve been so frightening! Bad power strip?

Sort of. Old power strip meant cords were loose and coming partially out. A metal-sheathed cable (because cats) touched the prongs, sparks flew out and caught the other cables and teen detritus on the floor on fire.

I am the one who was handling the cords and accidentally caused the sparks. I burned myself trying to get it unplugged, but I did and got it put out. Kid was able to get themselves out of bed and over the flames to escape.
