trust is something that must be earned, and as we’ve spent the last 18 months steadily and deliberately destroying yours in us, we no longer find it necessary to even pretend that you should trust us.

The "Trust" in "Trust and Safety" wasn't about consumers trusting TWITTER, it was about giving users tools like verification and anti-spam that enabled them to make better decisions about what to trust WHEN USING Twitter. Now that the answer is "don't trust ANYTHING on X..." job done, I guess.

I guess that makes sense, considering that eBay coined the term (IIRC).

I didn't know that, but it makes sense. You're not "trusting eBay." You're buying things from PEOPLE on eBay, and their job is to give you tools to help establish how trustworthy sellers are. (Imagine how annoyed buyers would be if scammy sellers could buy a "trusted seller" rating for $8/mo).
