the actual disconcerting effect of social media on language is that kids feel like they can't say the words "sex," "suicide," "kill," "porn," etc. anymore because those words get them censored
oh my god shut the fuck up www.theatlantic.com/family/archi...

I follow a Twitch streamer who, because of the platform's censorship policies, idiosyncratically swaps out the word "suicide" for "vote for Ralph Nader"

Another streamer, RTGame, famously has him saying the word "YouTube" dubbed over any word that gets censored. Not every word, mind you. But enough to avoid demonetization on edited VODs. Makes him actually talking about youtube feel super weird, which is on purpose.

I know that Nash076 does that also (or at least something similar to that) with his What The Fuck Is Wrong With You series for quite some time as well.

That's both incredibly clever, and...I kind of hate how it feels like a dig to Nader and third parties generally? Like "throw your vote away" that kind if thing

I don't know if you're old enough to remember the Y2K election, but voting for Ralph Nader really was much like suicide for America democracy.

There were stories in 2020 that talking about COVID on YouTube would be punished by the algorithm and the game grumps referred to it as the "Backstreet Boys Reunion Tour."

it wasnt stories. youtube was at the beginning half of 2020 demonetizing videos that discussed covid.
