I watched this just a few days ago, and it was truly inspired, especially Bowie performing“Boys Keep Swinging” after this in like a Marc Weiner getup. Also, thank god there were three Bowie performances on that episode, cause it was ROUGH otherwise.
I actually found Nomi when I was first coming out as a gay man around 2009ish. He was superficially comical, but his earnestness and talent forced me to respect him. I bawled out when I heard Nomi Song and its context, and I am tearing up now just thinking about it. What a loss. Fuck AIDS.
In high school I was a dj for a little public radio station and he was playing a show we sponsored. I got the call to pick him up from the airport and get him to his hotel and the venue. Remarkably nice guy. I was expecting an odder guy but nope. Pretty chill and interesting.
Nomi does a great octave up version of the cold song. I've read this is after he learned he had AIDS though I've never seen anything definitive. Great performance regardless.
