It really is incredible how much analog infrastructure we have already gotten rid of under the assumption we will always have things like electricity and satellite communication
Apparently someone at the Boston Fire Department had a wonderful, vindicating day yesterday, during the 911 outage:

My dad and I gripe to each other about the removal of copper-wire telephone service at least once a month. It's so stupid and shortsighted.

There are dozens of us complaining about this!

Redundancy, who needs it amiright? Nothing efficient about redundancies....

Kinda like how nobody under 30 (except scouts) knows how to read a map, do math without a calculator, write cursive, or look something up at a library without the use of a computer. I try not to think about the scary position that puts our country in.

Its like people have completely forgotten 9/11. ALWAYS have analog communications: Landline phone, Walkie Talkies or CB radio, Solar Generators, Mesh Networks, Transistor Radio. Even satellite networks can be disrupted in catastrophic events.

We tried to get a POTS line in our house, but the copper in the neighborhood had all been yanked. We were not pleased.
How does pulling the hook work without electricity?
