if you're wondering what to do in this moment, find an *existing* project and ask how to support it. there's not enough time to launch a bunch of new projects that hit the same early-stage stumbling blocks...
(disregard and carry on if you already know what to do, i'm sure you're doing it)
damn sure glad i'm lining up aid warehouses the US right now, who could have predicted that we won't have a legitimate or functioning government in 6 months and need to replace core government services with community-led mutual aid, what a wild coincidence
anyways google "dual power"
I'd always recommend searching for local mutual aid groups, like a Food Not Bombs chapter! It depends on what lane you're interested in helping out in- basic aid, healthcare access, international support...
If you can share a bit more about this folks on here might be able to provide better recs.
I have no special skills to offer. Beyond that, I suppose I thought more about communities I'd like to support rather than lanes - the unhoused and immigrants, mainly.
Yeah I'd say lane = community × set of actions. For example, my lane is shipping humanitarian aid to displaced people (as opposed to advocating for legal changes which benefit them, or doing frontline work to support them, etc).
Lookup your local refugee resettlement org- they always need help with things like move-ins or being a families buddy as they settle into town.
Local mutual aid orgs are your best bet for helping the houseless. Or join advocacy efforts to protect them from the Supreme Courts recent decision.
Oh for sure! I work with plenty of people I don't like, but they're ethical and effective and I can navigate my personal feelings to get the job done. Oftentimes that initial friction enhances your perspective as you build experience and empathy with them!
