It’s almost like the amount of money you need to have saved in order to retire goes up faster than you can save it

This assumes that people over 50 aren't still paying mortgages, don't have debt (medical or otherwise), and aren't still putting kids through university. None of my Boomer or GenX friends can afford to stop working. This is a structural problem, not just people who don't want to retire.

I am thrilled to be retired because I had no desire to die on the job. I retired early and left a lot of money on the table and things will be tighter in the future but that's OK. I don't even care who replaces me because it's always taken 2-3 people to replace me.
