I’m a disability attorney and guy who does writing stuff in Portland, OR. I love horror movies because they tell the truth. Opinions not endorsed by my employer.

For me, the hardest part of this whole stupid ordeal is having to explain my concept of America to a bright 2.5 year old daughter at a time when that concept is under literal threat of death.

Someone posted a poem that was intended to be in an iambic meter, but, like, 80% of the feet were actually trochees, not iambs. Finally, my English degree served a purpose.

I agree that Biden should stay the course in terms of maintaining ballot presence. That said, one option that nobody’s talking about is him promising to retire one day after inauguration.

When it was Warren Ellis, that kinda felt on-brand for his cranky, anti-everything, smart boi egotism. But with Neil Gaiman, my dude has taken so…much…credit for being a stalwart feminist ally and emotionally safe human being. What a hypocrite.

For what it’s worth I wanted to strangle Jed Bartlett in THE WEST WING for hiding his diagnosis of MS b/c his whole goddamn attitude is “Only I can fix it.”

This whole ordeal speaks to my biggest gripe against the Democratic Party. They beg us to pay all the bills and carry all the water to save the republic, but they act like we’re not owed a real explanation about anything.

There’s a lot of repugnant mansplaining on this app about reasons why Biden resigning is A Bad Idea (TM). I agree with many of them. But why can’t I hear that useful shit from the actual goddamn president?

Just realized I never watched the last series of LUTHER, so I’m going back through it from episode one. Goddamn, that shit holds up. It’s the hardest detective show ever.

I’m finally finishing X-MEN 97, and (1) I had no idea how nostalgic I’d be for all the mutant books I read as a teen, and (2) this is easily the best thing Marvel TV / film has released since ENDGAME.

I’m three games deep in my TTRPG campaign that’s like TRUE DETECTIVE-meets-Lovecraft’s DREAMLANDS. Here’s a couple things I’m reading for inspiration. (Shoutout to @mockman.bsky.social for recommending VELLITT BOE.)

I wish those “get to know me” lists were less than 10 items b/c eyes go blurry, but here goes my 5 (current) favorite shows: 1. Homicide: Life on the Street 2. The Thick of It 3. Boardwalk Empire 4. True Detective (all 4 seasons) 5. Batman: The Animated Series

I finally did it. People are still talking about this pointless flex by a Pulitzer laureate, and I’m done.

While making dinner I listened to “The Frolic,” a short story by Thomas Ligotti. Having read it before, I only kinda liked it both times. For various reasons I always bounce off Ligotti’s fiction. Specific to this story, the dialogue is workmanly at best.

@sdorward.bsky.social Just finished the new episode about spirit possession. It’s funny that you talked about (1) acting without conscious awareness as a classic symptom of possession and (2) how you forgot about writing a whole-ass scenario showing possession-by-Nyarlathotep. Kinda makes me wonder…

Picked up these guys at Powell’s Books (@powells.bsky.social) today. The hardcover ENIGMA was remaindered for $12 and marks the third format I’ve bought the story in. For what it is, that book is a match for WATCHMEN; it’s sad how obscure it still is.

My favorite movies from years that end in “7”: 1967: Spider Baby 1977: Eraserhead 1987: NoES 3: Dream Warriors 1997: LA Confidential 2007: Hot Fuzz 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Finally saw PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. There’s a lot of HOME ALONE influence (which I like) and the cast is great. Some fairly cringe dialog that Wes Craven gave to Black actors, but the anti-landlord theme is an evergreen Tweet. This movie kinda rules.

I just watched most of DONNIE DARKO with the mutants & Joe Bob. I have to say, the parts that you actually remember are still pretty fucking good.

In like 2005, I heard the original version of “Mad World” by Tears for Fears. I thought, “Wow, this sounds gimmicky and shallow compared to the minor key ballad in DONNIE DARKO.” By 2024, my feelings on the subject have completely flipped.

Every time something bad happens to Donald, I channel the conservative power to fucking revel without worry if any consequences are gonna stick. It’s like invoking the dread blessings of King Paimon. I recommended it.

I vibe with FURY ROAD and FURIOSA more than anything from the Mel Gibson trilogy. That said, I kind of want a new film that’s just 2 hours of Max driving a restored Pursuit Special for old times sake.
