Yesterday I read about an HOA that I watched slowely dissolve itself because enough people moved into the neighborhood and declared these rules were dumb and it all started with building sheds.

The original rules said no sheds of any kind but also said things had to be properly stored and enough people said this was dumb give us a fucking shed and the HOA caved and everyone was allowed sheds for storage.

This then lead into someone being like, I want to grow things in my front lawn for pollinators and food. Why are we restricted to only the backyard and enough people in the HOA agreed and the rule was dissolved.

Which then lead into why the fuck do we even have an HOA it's my fucking house and I can and should do what I want with it and the HOA turned to its bylaws and said well really the only reason is we have a community well to maintain.

So what ultimately happened is the HOA dissolved and turned into an architectural board because someone needs to maintain the well. But as far as gardening rules and sheds go, no one gives a shit anymore.

Love a story with a happy ending.

Reading the bylaws the architectural committee solely exists to only keep up with the shared well agreement and everyone can do what they want with their property. Iowa land records can be a good ride sometimes.

That HOA stuff is so wild to me. (German). If you own a house you should be able to do, whatever you want (unless there is a real law, not some HOA rules, that forbid stuff.) So yay for this community!

I was pretty happy with reading the outcome.
