i don't know that there is a suitable alternative (yet?) i am kinda thinking flickr + pulling in custom streams onto my own site, for my own posting.

There's activitypub stuff with photo albums that some seem to like, such as pixelfed. It does keep that annoying bit with Mastodon in general of having to pick server + migration being annoying if you want to switch, but it's safe from enshittification

I logged into IG for the first time in weeks. Checked up on Popeye the Foodie dog pictures and felt better

If you click on the following tab in Instagram it shows you posts in order, no bull and not even ads.

I don't post photos on IG but here is a photo from yesterday morning. It's a local pond I go to every morning on an early morning bike ride / birdwatching excursion. Northern NH. There's a Wilson's snipe sitting on the crossbar of the telephone pole.
