weird how a country organized around the principle "let's monetize every single human interaction to benefit an idle, vampiric shareholder class" is falling apart like a wet cardboard box
It's amazing how many times I've seen a British or Canadian person arguing for getting rid of the NHS and being more like American healthcare and then when I point out the gaping nightmare pit that American healthcare is they fall back on "Yeah well we have the NHS so I'm not worried about that"
I'm halfway around the world and the desire to emulate US business and social practices is baffling. That said, it doesn't help that US venture capital is looking to get involved in private healthcare in so many places.
US venture capital is exactly why people in other countries think they want this abomination. They’re propagandizing those places with the idea that private, for profit healthcare is amazing and the solution to all their problems.
i'm sorry am i reading this right
you've literally interacted with morons who have said "THE UK SHOULD ELIMINATE PUBLIC HEALTHCARE" and you point out "privatized healthcare is such a nightmare there was a popular five-season primetime drama about a guy who cooks meth to pay his medical bills"
and they turned around and said "WELL THAT WON'T BE A PROBLEM HERE IN THE UK, WE HAVE PUBLIC HEALTHCARE"
as if they forgot what they had LITERALLY ARGUED IN THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE
(apologies for typos, I am both baffled and on a phone keyboard
i am not strictly speaking SURPRISED but it's still disturbing as hell to be reminded that these people don't have a functioning mental model of the world, literally no understanding of cause and effect)
This is what happens when you have people who are led to a frenzy by media without ever realising what exactly they're getting mad at and sometimes even going against their own experiences, like a guy I've heard on a clinic saying private is much better, but wouldn't treat whatever condition he had.
For conservatives and reactionaries, hypocrisy and incoherency are virtues. They think that arguing complete fucking nonsense makes them stronger than their opponents. They don't think anything bad can actually happen to them, only to the people they hate.
It's insane that certain provincial govts are just gutting public healthcare systems without bothering to ask if the public wants it. (in Canada, where we are very smug about having better healthcare systems than the US)
You mean value added "Premium Structured Water" is not necessary for a functioning society?
I don't want my water to be defiant, I want it to be very compliant, one might even say fluid!
God damn this fucking pisses me off. My dad used to buy that stupid Essentia water and come out complaining about the price of groceries. One day I read the bottle and it had a little disclaimer like "if you pH test this it probably won't test alkaline like we claim it should for...reasons"
Like, this shit is hyperfake. The health benefit claim they're making is fake, and the product itself doesn't even have the claimed "ingredient" that is supposed to produce the benefit. Because WHY WOULD IT
