The present situation in Sudan is terrible, and there is a real risk of famine on a massive scale:
“We’ve seen mortality projections estimating that in excess of 2.5 million people, about 15% of the population in Darfur and Kordofan – the hardest hit regions – could die by the end of September,”
Famine is a technical term. It means at least 30% of kids are acutely malnourished and 2/10,000 people die every day of hunger. At the stage below famine, at least 15% of kids are malnourished and every day one person in 10,000 starves to death. In any decent world that would be enough to act.
