Biden has surpassed my wildest expectations on climate policy, but this is simply incorrect. The US is lagging not driving the transition.

Thanks largely to Biden and the Democratic party there is now a kind of global race to get to the mass, chear carbon-free energy. We're going to hit peak global emissions (fingers crossed) this year or next. We're deploying solar at a level that blowing away every single prediction.

The media may well suck, but your whole job as a candidate is to succeed conditional on the current media.

So, I guess the Biden team's plan is to keep doing this? Until November?

A minor but important factor helping Labour yesterday was the utter collapse of the SNP in Scotland. In 2019 they held 48 seats. They just lost 39 of those, almost all of which went to Labour.

Re-upping this excellent article by WRI colleagues on increasing competition for crops—not only to feed people directly but also to feed animals and cars (biofuels). Did you know that since the 1960s, the share of global cropland used for domestic food consumption has declined from ~50% to 37%? 🧪

Good article and excellent that it mentions the burning of fossil fuels several times as the primary cause of climate change. Worth noting, too, that the #2 cause of climate change is agriculture/land use/food systems, at ~1/4-1/3 of annual human-caused GHG emissions depending on how you count it.

Also... it was on television. We saw it. Whether or not the NYT sucks is independent of the state of the president's cognitive function.

The New York Times and Financial Times both have stories with multiple diplomatic and security sources saying they’ve personally experienced Biden’s cognitive decline. I can’t understand why people want to diminish the significance of that reality.
