I made this entirely on my phone at 6am on a holiday weekend so you have to like and share it

Bonus tips: -if it's only in one spot it isn't backed up. single point of failure -drives and USB sticks randomly fail. cloud services do too -one copy local, one copy remote cloud. theft/flood/fire/meteorite at one place shouldn't lose anything I have every file I made since 1996. In 3 places 🤓
Hey, you. Back up your files, now. External hard drive, different cloud service, good ol' USB stick - but do back up.

Nintendo, unlike many other companies, is in the business of creating things
Nintendo says it will not use generative-AI, preferring to create stuff that is "unique to" them and to avoid copyrighted material used by gen-AI: gameworldobserver.com/2024/07/03/n...

the year is 2024 and in the US we have b o o k c r i m e s
This is one of the most dystopian signs I've ever seen. Republicans are quickly turning this country into an unrecognizable freakshow.

obtained a new little vertical bookshelf for my 100+ pocket notepads from the past 20 years filled with throwaway notes made in my personal shorthand that nobody else can read, so I got that going for me, which is nice. before this I kept them in a little plastic box which made them harder to browse

apropos of uhhhhhhh everything, reposting this again
As well-meaning publishers try to navigate the coming storm of state laws against diversity, I hope they'll consider Timothy Snyder's Rule #1 (from his slim book ON TYRANNY).

updating this for the new riven remake original riven was 4,000 images of 608x392 resolution (leaving out animated movies) quest 3 is 2064×2208 per eye, 120 fps. can display around 36 original frames per modern frame. at 120 fps it can show all originally rendered pixels losslessly in 0.93 seconds

for people doing this please be sure your TV is very securely mounted, or if it's just sitting on a base use the little screw-in earthquake wall anchor strap, as every now and then the cattest part of the cat brain may take over resulting in the television being pounced at by 9 lbs of murderous fury

as some good news I got to see some hometown friends from high school and they're all still kind people and stuff, so we got that going for us

I appreciated CD hidden tracks where there was a silent gap after the last song for a bonus song but that totally messes up either song being part of a modern playlist shuffle and those should be split apart as two separate tracks on spotify etc, being kept as one is not preserving anything of value

not gonna lie it's hard for me to imagine how it works in other countries where they don't have a constitutionally protected right to always have a loaded hot dog ready in their car
everybody watches for reaching to the glove compartment or center console but never forget how easily a hotdog, even one that's fully loaded, may be kept at the ready in the sunglasses compartment

"but what's the economic value in that" oddly, nearly all of it?

my coworker is upset because her daughter's teacher left the classroom unattended for 3 minutes, which she knows because she watches an all-day livestream of the class every day? and she can even switch angles to see every corner of the room??? is this normal now???

For people still on Twitter (I appreciate there's still more engagement there!) a reason to wind it down is it could, seriously, be decaying you into a worse person. People around us shape the lens of what's normal to us, what we think about and how. The crowd there has been rotting faster every day
Wow I just spent ten minutes on Twitter and even people who weren't right-wingers before 2024 are spouting off right-wing nonsense now. What a thoroughly grim and depressing place. And Facebook is like wandering through a condemned mall. This place feels like the last good dive bar around (for now)

GIMP is so bad it sells people adobe subscriptions. gave up on recommending it long ago. Photopea.com is an actually usable substitute, I've been using it for several years now without any issues. free and in browser. not saying it'll fit all pro needs, but compared to GIMP, it's light years ahead.
listen i'm not saying GIMP is useless but i am saying it's a misrepresentation to act like it's a perfectly acceptable 100% replacement for Photoshop and that its interface isn't totally fuckin busted. like sorry but i have been on Computer since 1994 and it is among the worst UIs i have ever seen
