I want to live in a world where no one who lives in town *needs* a car.

I’ve not been in a car for over 6 months. I live in The Hague, in The Netherlands. (We don’t put “The” in front of all names, but we sometimes do)

Dutch people 🤝 Ohio State Putting an unnecessary "The" in front of things.

In SoCal we like to put "The" in front of freeway names. You take the 101 to the 405 to the 5.

But do you take the 101 to get to “The” Los Angeles? That’s what we do here in THE HAGUE 😅😂

I think "The Rock Of Gibraltar" might be among the worst of those. IIRC, it was something like "Jabal Tarik" for "Mountain Of Tarik" so it's "The Rock Of The Mountain Of Tarik." Never mind "Licorno" being "The Horn" and "Alicorno" being "The The Horn" meaning "The Alicorn" is "The The The Horn."

That would be silly. Los Angles already has a "The" in it that is what "Los" means. We do say going to The OC, The LBC, and The 'Nard

We put "the" in front of some provinces. Not Auckland, Northland, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago.

The problem (in North America anyway) is that transit in many places has been cut so far that only the most marginalized people use it, & it is seen wrongly as "only for poor people". Dumb reporting of specific incidents doesn't help, giving a perception of being unsafe. Needs more $ and frequency!

I see lots of bike and transit advocates; the real NA issue is that car drivers want 100% of transportation funding to go to improving CAR infrastructure, whether that investment makes sense or not. And car drivers are vocal, and they think driving fees fund 100% of car infra too.

Yep! Previous generations built infrastructure wrong, then concentrated all the wealth and power that would have let us fix those mistakes. Liquidating the oligarchs (...' bank accounts...) is a necessary first step in repairing centuries of societal mismanagement.
