There’s a bookstore in my town in SW Virginia with an entire shelf devoted to how much JD Vance sucks and doesn’t speak for Appalachia, which I’ve always had the sense is a somewhat bipartisan consensus out here, so I confess I am curious to see how that ends up playing.

This is the best book review ever written and it took 15 seconds to do.

What radicalized was watching my friend get shot twice on national television while trying to protect his autistic client from the police because he was holding a yellow toy car. And the cop didn't even get suspended. Calling for basic human rights didn't radicalize me. Cops did.

Seriously. If you're Appalachian and JD Vance is the guy that makes you look at Tromp and go "that's my guy! That rich boy from the holler that spoke over me is my guy!" You're not Appalachian. You're from the plains and should stay where you belong. I said what I said.
