I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:

If a school district replaces regular class with study so kids who leave DURING THE SCHOOL DAY for private religious training won’t miss anything, these not-really-non-profits are taking learning time from students who go to school for, you know, school. www.dispatch.com/story/news/c...

Biden is not owed good press by a long shot. But the amount of coverage his age is receiving relative to that of Trump's very real past and promised future actions strikes me as one of the greatest media mis-prioritizations since the run-up to the Iraq War.

The NYT felon article is as dumb as the I Don’t Vote one. What is going on over there?!

@ABC, why are you rerunning an interview you didn’t show the end of?

Florida pilot project uses community voices to combat rumors “the pilot revealed that some immigrant communities are dealing with huge unmet information needs. “There's information inequities, there's paywalls, there's language barriers, there's literacy barriers,” Friedhoff said.
To fight bad information, a project taps trusted messengers in immigrant communitieswww.npr.org As news outlets contract and falsehoods circulate online, researchers want to know if trusted community messengers can help link people to quality information.

This Fourth of July, let’s bear in mind that what many Americans value in this country is its inclusion and protection of everyone, regardless of their beliefs.

“Trump should drop out not because it would be good for Republicans, or good for Democrats, but because it would be good for America. Everyone who isn’t a cultish devotee of Trump knows it. And every one of them should have the courage to say it.”

I love Biden and yes. “A new-generation candidate could bring a jolt of energy to the ticket. It would give so-called double haters, voters unhappy with the rematch between an 81-year-old president and a 78-year-old former president, a possible new place to go this November.”
Should Biden Quit? Democrats Weigh Potential Rewards and Steep Riskswww.nytimes.com Picking a new nominee could give Democrats a jolt of energy. But it could bring division and a crash-course campaign with no room for error.

It really is a tough choice between spending the next four months generating cringe but effective propaganda about how pretty and tough the first female president who is also Black/Asian is, versus spending those months trying to convince voters dementia isn’t a word in the dictionary

History is so important, and the reason so many don't want it told. When you put together the stories, from Colonial times to the present, with data points like Wilmington and Tulsa, white supremacy becomes a through-line that, rather than an aberration, is a force we always must monitor and resist.

Biden, besides being a good man, has been a truly consequential president. He deserves to be remembered as the leader who saved the country from Trump in 2020, lifted us from the dark days of the Covid pandemic, passed critical legislation .. and, in the end, knew when and how to say goodbye.

To pretend that Trump is fit for public office, Republicans have had to give themselves over to corrosive denial.
asking Democrats to show MAGA-style devotion to their leader is a dubious strategy both ethically and practically. There is nothing to admire in the way Republicans have fallen in line behind Trump; it’s been a moral catastrophe.
